Break your fast in a healthy way.

Everything we eat and drink in the morning has an impact on our activeness, alertness and concentration throughout the day. The first meal of the day should include foods with both simple carbs, which are quick and easy to digest, as well as complex carbs that provide energy for the longer run. Also, remember to include protein and fats. The more varied the breakfast, the lower the risk of potential nutrient deficiencies in body.

There’s an old english saying: eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. Another version: eat breakfast, share lunch and give away dinner. Conclusion, breakfast is the most important meal of the day so never to skip it.

However, people tend to take this thought of never skipping breakfast in a rather wrong direction and end up stockpiling with not so healthy food. When we say, always eat breakfast, it means eat healthy and not something like donuts, parathas and/or maggi. By undergoing the pursuit of “nutritious breakfast”, over time, we might notice:
– Less body fat
– Less chronic disease
– Improved learning/retention, mood and energy
– Muscle preservation
– Increased strength
– Lower cholesterol
– Improved bowel movements
– Balanced blood sugars

In short, we get most of our required nutrients for the day from eating this one meal.

Many a times people tend to think that eating a healthy breakfast or maintaining a healthy lifestyle is difficult, it is not. Eating healthy doesn’t mean that you can not eat what you please instead switch to something healthy. For instance, using whole wheat or multi grain pasta instead of all purpose one or eating baked or boiled veggies instead of fried. Also eating a salad now and then is a good choice too and if you think that salads are boring, well you are very wrong. Salads are as tasty as they are healthy and nutritious. There are a lot of varieties to choose from when it come to salads or just have a little fun and experiment a little, it never hurts you know.

I love to eat a healthy breakfast. I mostly have a tall glass of smoothie and a piece of whole wheat toast for breakfasts but I also love a little change now and then like this plate in the photo. Let me tell you a little about it. We have all American style scrambled egg, semolina Appe all the way from India, baked potatoes and asparagus, and charred tomatoes. Healthy and tasty at the same time.

That’s my take on the most important meal of the day, breakfast. What’s yours? Tell me in the comments.
